This says that this is the vocabulary of Texans... I have actually heard most of these at Maverik coming out of the mouths of farmers. I kid you not.
Vocabulary .....TEXAS STYLE (Idaho Farmers Style, more like it)
*1. AS WELCOME AS A SKUNK AT A LAWN PARTY.
Self-explanatory.
*2. TIGHTER THAN BARK ON A TREE.
Not very generous.
3. BIG HAT, NO CATTLE.
All talk and no action.
4. WE'VE HOWDIED BUT WE AIN'T SHOOK YET.
We've made a brief acquaintance, but not been formally introduced.
*5. HE THINKS THE SUN CAME UP JUST TO HEAR HIM CROW.
He has a pretty high opinion of himself.
6. IT'S SO DRY THE TREES ARE BRIBIN' THE DOGS.
We really could use a little rain around here.
*7. JUST BECAUSE A CHICKEN HAS WINGS DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN FLY.
Appearances can be deceptive.
*8. THIS AIN'T MY FIRST RODEO.
I've been around awhile.
9. HE LOOKS LIKE THE DOG'S BEEN KEEPIN' HIM UNDER THE PORCH.
Not the most handsome of men.
10. THEY ATE SUPPER BEFORE THEY SAID GRACE.
Living in sin.
11. TIME TO PAINT YOUR BUTT WHITE AND RUN WITH THE ANTELOPE.
Stop arguing and do as you're told.
12. AS FULL OF WIND AS A CORN-EATING HORSE.
Rather prone to boasting.
13. YOU CAN PUT YOUR BOOTS IN THE OVEN
BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM BISCUITS.
You can say whatever you want about something,
but it doesn't change what it is.
The ones with the * by them are the ones that I have actually heard from the
Idaho farmers.
I'm sure they use the other ones out there in the wild blue yonder but it just
doesn't come up in regular gas station talk.

Even though Idaho is different from Texas, you will still find some people that talk the same. I wonder if the ones you heard were from Texas originally??
I think that no matter where you are...you will find the "uneducated"...who have to make up their own vocabulary...that only "their kind" will understand. The rest of us need a special "dictionary" to understand what it is they are saying. If they are wearing dirty cowboy attire and have uncombed hair under their beat up dusty old mis-shapin hat, you will find that these phrases will come out of their mouth. They say what they know and that is what makes them so "special"! hehehaha! Am I being a little stereo-typical?!?!Great post Maymo...very informative!
Gotta tell you, in my short-lived Texas life, I haven't heard any of these. And I even live (sort of) in the country. Granted, most of the people I hang with aren't originally from Texas, so that helps :) Fun post! And cute jumping picture.
